Getting the most from your vet visit
Get the most out of your Vet visits by being honest with your responses and don’t be embarrassed.
When you take your dog for their annual vaccination and check-up, here are 12 questions you should ask your Vet…..
- How much does your dog weigh and how does it compare with previous records
- How does their body condition score – if they are overweight or underweight relative to their frame
- What should he be eating
- Is his physical condition normal – that is very important
- How do the teeth and gums and nails look
- Is he getting all the vaccines he needs and is the vaccine programme set to a 3 yearly cycle where it is appropriate
- Does he have worms or needs a to be wormed
- Does he need any routine testing – especially if he is senior in age (within the last 25% of a normal age expectancy for his breed)
- Ask for emergency details in case an emergency arises
- Ask if they accept and answer emails or telephone calls if any short questions arise
- Ask if there is anything you can do to make your dog more comfortable, e.g. easing arthritis or joint discomfort
Ask if your dog is at risk , e.g. risk of contracting a disease, arthritis, certain types of cancer
