Maiden event to showcase Winter Stars
Olympians, world and national champions from over 26 countries will descend on the Southern Lakes District next month for the inaugural Winter Games held August 21 – 30, 2009.
Taking place at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Farm, Naseby and Dunedin, the games will also feature top Olympians from traditional winter sports nations such as Switzerland, France, Canada, and United States. The competitive edge involves Alpine skiing, free skiing, x-country skiing, snowboarding, curling, ice skating, and adaptive snow sports as well as the demonstration sports of winter triathlon and natural luge.
Wanaka’s own free skier and X Games silver medallist Jossi Wells is looking forward to competing at an international level in his own backyard next month – and he’s got his sights on gold. Jossi will be firing in all 3 disciplines of free skiing – half pipe, slopestyle and the big air – and he plans to make an impression.
Jossi, who is the hottest freeski prospect to come out of New Zealand in years will be competing against some the best free skiers in the world.
Bridget Jones of Hawkshead Lodge and Gardens and from the local Wanaka people, we wish Jossi Wells and his brother Byron all the very best.
GO FOR GOLD !!
